So I am going to post "ORIGINS" of various words and things that I am curious about and you might be curious about too! I am hoping to provide facts and or quotes to provide evidence. Everyone's opinion may very but there are multiple sides to a story and I intend to share both sides, like you will see below. Most importantly believe what you choose but take into account all of the ways people can or cannot perceive things you may do.

My
cousin, who was in and out of prision, most of his young adult life,
told me that it was advertisement, so that other inmates new which men
were gay and approachable.

I've
been told by some prisoners that it's advertisement. I was surprised
because I hadn't known that before. I just thought it was a fad. I've
been told by more than one prisoner, though, so I guess it's maybe not
totally untrue.

That what I was told it ment when I first got to prison. Needless to say I haven't seen very many men in prison wearing baggy pants.
In NY we're allowed belts, although the pants don't have loops on them. You aren't allowed to put loops on because it's altering state property. You figure it out.
FYI: In Jails where there is shared bathroom and you have to carry your toilet paper back and forth, you always have it wrapped up because if it's hanging out it also considered advertising.

The look actually came from prison where the incarcerated
are not issued belts to keep the pants up that are not custom fitted. Prison
issued clothing tends to be rather baggy, especially the pants that tend to
fall off.
Many guys will tell you that they “sag” their pants
because it is the popular thing to do. They tend to think that this makes them
look “cool.” However, in prison, this fashion comes from the brothers signaling
that they are looking for sex. Yes, my dear friends, this “style” is also a
signal for gay sex. If you’re not gay, may I suggest picking your pants up
before Bubba comes along and misinterprets your meaning? This could prove to be
a mess for a guy who may think he is “sagging” his pants as an interpretation
of his favorite rap star, and it also marks you as a felon.

Although there are quite a few versions of how
sagging was introduced to the fashion arena, sagging
pants origin can be traced to the American prison
inmates who wore loose fitting prison uniforms
without a belt. In those days, belts were popular
weapons used by the inmates in prison, either to
commit suicide or murder others by hanging or
strangling them. Same was the case with shoe
strings, and hence both these objects were banned in
prison. In such circumstances, people with over
sized uniforms were left with no option but to let
their pants hang loose below their waist.
Eventually, the inmates became so used to this, that
the trend continued even after the inmates were
freed once their term was completed. The trend of
sagging pants got a major boost as a style statement
when rappers started wearing them in 1990s. This
made the style popular among hip-hop fans who
fancied following their idols on stage and in music
videos. Soon enough, sagging pants became one the
most popular fashion trends among the youth,
something which didn't really go down well with
everyone.

A. Here's the most commonly know fact about the look itself, The look (as
most people know) started in prison during the late 1970's to present
day by men who had there manhood taken away by other men in prison.
Allow me to explain even further, in jail when a man wants another man
to be his "girlfriend" he would force or rape the man into submission
and then afterwards would make the man wear his pants below his back
side to show that he was "taken" by another man.
B. Now aside from the truth that people might know about "The saggy pants
movement" is another awful truth. Back in the days of lynching, the
would catch young African American males and kill them, once killed they
would hang them right side up and had their "Manhood" cut off. After
the victims have had their "Manhood" cut off then they would display
them with their pants sagging off to show that they had it taken from
them, much like in jail... Honestly, it is very graphic to hear but, in
to be well informed about something you must know the truth.
Remember make choices for yourself! Not because of someone else. Allow others to inspire you not control your thoughts and actions.
