Wedding Number 3 with S.C.!
Wedding Number 3 with Shannon Christopher happened today!
It was another lovely Savannah day and even with rain we pulled through.
The wedding was at the Jepson Center a museum in downtown Savannah and the ceremony and reception was in the front of the museum with huge glass windows making the room one giant soft box!
Things I learned today!
I started getting down the differences between Shannon's lens. Which ones he pulls out for certain shots and also memorizing which ones are which. His 50mm prime lens is his prized possession and is considered like an 80mm on a non-full frame camera. I know that the camera sensor on a full frame and a non-full frame can vary the output with your lens. And I am still learning what the conversion for my Nikon is. I also discussed with Shannon the benefit of a 50mm. Cause on my camera it would act more like a 80mm which is considered the ideal portrait lens. I also learned some more about lighting and really killing items in your background. We took some images of the groom in a parking garage, but the images look like he was in a studio! No flash no bounce no nothing just a dark space and beautiful window light. Shannon follows the light, goes to the light, and works with as much natural light as possible and that's what I'm all for! With the wedding being in mid day I observed methods of creating softer shadows and ways to diffuse the harsh sun by being under trees or in the shade.
I also learned about ISO usage and how to use your shutter in correspondence with your lens length.
Slow shutter speeds are risky and can easily cause blur with weddings.
This is my 3rd wedding with Shannon and boy do I have a blast! I know this internship was meant for just the Spring and Summer but I'm ready to spend the rest of the year with Shannon! I pencil his weddings in my agenda and I plan my schedule around him. I couldn't ask for a better learning opportunity and hands on experience. I feel like I am learning things i should have already grasped but in a professional environment in the heat of the moment. Every wedding is a new learning experience and another opportunity to chat with him about what we both love to do!
The bride and groom portraits were the most fun as always. I just love seeing other people in love. Watching the groom place little kisses on his wife's shoulders and to capture her slight smile as she observes...OH! I die for these moments, it makes me so happy and warm inside to see something so beautiful and to see Shannon capture it and preserve the moment beautifully!
Can't wait for wedding #4!

Autobiography of My Hair
This is a photographic record of my interesting hairstyles I've done while being at SCAD.
Being in a new place with no history here I felt it was a perfect opportunity to let loose and do anything I feel like. Whether its good or bad no one knows me enough to make assumptions of judge and in the end if I'm okay with walking in the public with it than who cares what you think!
As you will be able to see I like VOluME! My brother compares me to dinosaurs whenever I do my humps. But I've explored a variety of ways to do my humps in my hair. And of course I USED to straighten my hair so those images are here too. My favorite thing about straight hair was how it would blow in the wind and lay flat really showing off my length of hair.....but that was it.
I DON'T miss what it did to my hair ends, I DON'T miss running from water, I DON'T miss my hours of straighten being ruined by getting the mail in the South's humidity. And my greatest revelation is that I Don't get my Volume when my hair is straightened. I've heard someone say when your hair is like that its lifeless and has no body. And when its straightened my humps flop over and never stay put. I don't have to worry about any of those things when I embrace my kinks and coils and curls :)
Now that I think of it, I remember always saying when i was little I wanted my hair so that when I went in the pool and came out it would lay flat and not shrink lol. There is no way around it though, my hair is a sponge and it takes a minute to see the water come out the other end when washing it. I'm happy with the way my hair is and I'm glad I've come to terms with it.
Even Perry prefers my poof instead of flat straight hair!
Coincidentally I am unbraiding my hair as I type this, lol, and I keep examining my hair ends since I had such horrible split ends and it's hard to see any. Just cute little SPRINGY curls :)
Enjoy the images and feel free to share ideas on what I should do with it next!
My knowledge and Revelations have been inspired by the wonderful NAPPY HUTT!
Check them out the next time you are in Savannah and learn how to save your kinky curls or how to get them back!

Summer Plans!
At SCAD Career Fair Last quarter I volunteered!
This is important because it was a flash forward to my summer plans. SCAD has hundreds of companies come in and set up a booth and they are there with information and best of all JOBS! Jobs seeking SCAD talent right away. As a volunteer I got to get in early before everyone else and I was assigned a booth to assist the company reps with their student interviews. I organizes times and set appointments. I was disappointed at first because I had a textile company but that company was 2 doors down from.... TIME INC!
Best believe I was on my best top notch behavior asking questions and introducing myself and assisting the rep set of her table indirectly lol. As she got ready we spoke and i flipped through the magazines she had on the table. I told her a little bit about myself and inquired about their internships. Unfortunately their internships are for juniors and seniors which is why I always said I would preserve my last summer for Time Magazine. I've wanted to work for Time Inc. for soo long but I won't really know if that job is for me until I experience it via an internship.
Now SUMMER PLANS for Summer of 2012 is as follows: I am going home to Florida to take some classes at Palm Beach State. I was suppose to take 3 classes but one was cut due to the budget cuts in Florida colleges :( I was so sad. But that's ok that just means next of 2013 I will be taking 3 classes and then I will be completely done with all my general education (non-art) classes. That actually puts me ahead quite a bit but I am afraid to dwell on it and keep talking about it or else it won't happen.
Also I finally found some roommates who are here for the long run. I am stoked to be in an apartment next year. I think being off campus will help me focus more and keep me better organized with school not to mention the space! I am very particular in that I need a place for everything to be nice and neat. One of the girls may bring her little dog which I don't mind as long as it doesn't go in the kitchen or sit on the coach. I actually would love if it didn't leave her room lol. But maybe that's not very nice lol.
Anywhoo! That's my Summer Summer Summer Time Plans for 2012.
Can't wait!

Drawing II: Winter Quarter
So I know Winter Quarter is over with now but I still owe you all pictures!!
So here ya go! (Forgive my cell phone images)
So here ya go! (Forgive my cell phone images)
LINE DRAWING WITH A VALUE FOCAL POINT
CHARCOAL VALUE DRAWING
INTRODUCING OIL PAINT
As a photo major this is the end of the road with my drawing.
But I hope to touch on drawing again someday in the future.
I'd hate to loose it and drawing is one of those things that if you don't use it you'll loose it.
NEW Family Portrait!
Ever since I got my very first digital camera back in the summer of 2007 I always took a picture of what I got. This family portrait is just an addition to my photography equipment family!
An essential thing I learned from working with Shannon Christopher is that I can still have ultimate control of my light outside of the studio. I always felt that my lighting needed work when it wasn't being controlled and everything in this new family portrait is going to help me explore the use of my Nikon SB Flash OFF CAMERA!! lol. I know I know, finally right!
With some recent earnings I was able to purchase the following for under $140!!
I got:
1. Opteka Monopod that you see in the foreground on its side
(From left to right)
2. Mini Softbox for my Flash
3. 2 Nikon Wireless Transmitters
4. External Battery Pack
5. (In the back) Neewer Reflector with reversible covers.
Another major thing missing is an umbrella but I couldn't afford that just yet.
I'm excited to take these guys for a test run but unfortunately new things don't come with batteries :(
So this weekend i'll have to go get some more rechargeable batteries and fill these bad boys up!
I pushed to get them before the end of the month because I hope to use them in ATL at the Hair Show. Similar to how I worked with Shannon at the wedding reception, I will have my assistant (Perry of course), hold the flash in the appropriate position as I travel around the Atlanta Convention Center taking pictures of the event.
Right before the show I'm gonna get a tutorial with Shannon so I am looking forward to that. This internship with him has not only provided me a place to grow but a person to depend on with real world photography questions. With Shannon I don't fear asking a stupid question cause I know he's there to help me out :)
Now this picture!
You will later learn more about.
But this is my first 3D Design project.
Inspired by a Doll House I created a camera house.
A safe place for my photography family members.
They need a roof over their heads too! lol

Solider Baby March On
Being overly mature can be great but many fail to acknowledge it's faults. The thing is you can't acknowledge what you never witness.
By censoring my thoughts and emotions and daily events I am defeating the purpose of my blog being a free place to share myself.
My successes my failures my ups and downs.
Your day can go from amazing and down the drain in a matter of mins.
Thinking about my last few posts and this one included I reflect on one of the first poems I posted on here.
I described how everyone can have their rainy days but its up to them to allow the sun back in.
I had my time to vent and to release in my writing that's what I do.
But I am CHOOSING to move on. To smile again.
Not to forget but to not let my emotions hinder whats more valuable in my life.
The things you learn when being the "mature girl" the "strong girl" ... whatever they call it.
I am myself.
And no matter how hard it may be I've had my rainy day and I'm done with the dark skies.
I have to stand in faith.
So when someone asks how are you doing?
I say "Fine."
Because I'm Letting Go and Letting God.

Solider march on.
Dry your eyes
Stand Tall
They can't see you fall
Or else they will loose faith
To see you down will bring their weak spirits down
Solider keep face.
They are watching
Waiting
The moment you fall they want to loose hope
Use it as an excuse to fall into their insecurities
Stand Tall Solider
Ties your shoes tight
You have the skill, the talent, the weapons they can't even imagine.
March on for you
Then for your followers
You are an example
Solider you are a prodigy
A vessel of God.
Dry your eyes Solider.
It's time to get back into the war.
Save Her.
Save Him.
Save Them all with your words.
Soilder baby march on.

A series of poems (3)
We were supposed to be Married!
Den you left me at the altar
Ran over my white pickett fence
Crushed my business
We were supposed to be Married!
Making money together
Making decsions together
A team
A pair
One for the books
For the long run
Maybe you are just my brother
A look alike
Imposter
You were supposed to be my Husband
My till death do we part
The only sunshine to my rain
Sleet
And Hail
Don't believe in divorce
Shit ain't easy
But the rings were left at the altar.
Love under investigation
"Its all about the bride" they say.
Well I'm 4 years early
There's no wedding today.
Den you left me at the altar
Ran over my white pickett fence
Crushed my business
We were supposed to be Married!
Making money together
Making decsions together
A team
A pair
One for the books
For the long run

A Series of Poems (1)
So late last night I wrote a 3 poems back to back in a matter of mins. They aren't meant to be pulled apart. Just thoughts barely organized I think. I was so weak and tired I didn't even want to open up my laptop. So I wrote them in my phone and I am posting them now. I should be posting my wedding post but that will have to wait. These writing are more imminent at the moment last night.

My heart has never felt so heavy
Theres a weight i cant lift
My body is tired bur sleep is dreadful.
I close me eyes and its you...
I don't wanna miss
Vision all fucked up now
You havd wings and could do no wrong
Full of jokes and promises that could fustrate me but I held onto them all.
Pear shaped jewels make me cry
Now I gotta keep it in the drawer.
Can't eliminate you
Its not that easy
The more I push you away this weight aches
The pressure is getting serious
Pushing against my morals and my spirit and my soul
GOD order my steps I don't know what to do.
Bring peace to my chest to my world
Return the wings now broken and frail
they lay overexposed
black and white
scratched
Damn.
Silent streams in a cold Savannah night
My anger subsiding
but the Pressure rising
Shallow breaths
Gasp for clean air
weight
pressure
dragging me to the bottom
No one to cry to
This strong girl in need of a moment
Silent streams in a cold Savannah night
Drowning.

GOOOD FRIDAY
So this post is a little rushed since I must go to bed right now!
But I had to share that I am fasting for Good Friday and I thought I should share that.
A regular Good Friday in my home would be full of fried fish and loads of bun and cheese (Jamaican traditional item to eat around Easter time). My mom would fast during the day and I wasn't allowed to watch TV or use the computer until 6pm unless it was a Crucifixion movie on.
Anyways I am supper busy today on Good Friday and I feel disrespectful to go through my day and just let Good Friday go by. So to show my appreciation for God and his son that he sent to die for all of our sins I am fasting today all day so that every time i get hungry I will reflect on why I am hunger and think about what occurred today. Often times when I have a busy day like I will tomorrow the day will go by and you'll totally forget what occurred in history. Good Friday should not be another day to let pass without giving HIM extra thanks (as I do every day).
I'm stressed and super busy!! But GOD will see me through and he will give me rest.
Happy Good Friday!!
THANK THE LORD :)

SCAD Model Fitting
Last Friday I had my first modeling fitting in the Fashion Building.
When I got there I wasn't sure what to do but I had a list of the designers I belonged to and I noticed my picture in one of the designers books so I went to her first. I tried on two different looks before she decided which one would be for me. She was the most organized, and because of her organization i could easily understand how everything worked. She had six models all in her binder on separate sheets. Then she had her 6 designs paper clipped next to the page with the model sheet..
The designers have to make 6 different looks and at this fitting they were seeing which looks were best for the models they had. I later learned that periodically they have to finish 2 looks. That way by the Jury show all their pieces will be done and not rushed at last minute.
The email requested we bring heels and NOT wear thongs. Well now I know why... I went from taking off my clothes to putting them back on when I would travel over to the next designer. After my 2nd designer I just stayed in my underwear and bra lol. I was surrounded by half naked girls doing the same thing and a few male models that stayed in their little corner of the room. It was a good thing i had my list because I efficiently ran through asking people for who was who.
One of the fashion professors, a little old asian lady, overseeing the fittings brought orange juice and tried to get the models to have some. She was SURE that we were gonna faint or get sick lol.
i am NOT a starving model that's for sure lol.
I do though want to get back into shape for the sake of the fashion show, i wanna look my best and feel my best. Also over the summer I want to go back to pole fitness. And if I go back feeling the way I do now Michelle's classes are gonna kick my butt!
My favorite design so far is Zenobia's. She is from California and her designs are an androgynous style taking male formal wear looks and creating something sexy for women. Me...LOVING ties and bow ties and dress shirts this look was the most fun for me! I felt sexy in it and it fit wonderfully, i told her I'd buy it.
The smart thing is that the designers make their stuff out of the cheap muslin fabric first so they can make their changes and stuff with the models. Then when they r ready they start using the expensive fabrics.
I can't wait for the show and all my designs I'm wearing seem really cool! I hope they make it past the jury show and into the BIG show!! That would be fantastic! I already told myself that if my designer's design makes it into the show I am going to get contacts (temporarily) because I don't want to walk the run way blind I wanna see it!

Color Film Photography
This quarter (SPRING) I am taking PHOT206: Color Technique
This class is centered on color film and color photography and it's importance in the photographic world. My first assignment is to shoot four rolls of film, minimum, and show saturated color, desaturated color, monochromatic, and complementary colors. I thought it would be best to organize each role for each requirement. I started on this assignment yesterday and used my muse, my permanent model Alexis.
I shot my first roll of Color Negative Film with Alexis. I used a Canon 35mm from SCAD and a roll of Kodak Ektar 100 color film. She put together a crazy sexy pastel color fit and I put her in some desaturated run down locations. The shoot was only like an hour and a half plus all the walking we did downtown but I was very very proud of myself! I used all natural lighting and love how everything came out. Like an idiot I forgot the steps of reeling my film in and opened the back before the film was back in its canister! I know I know talk about big no no. But luckily only one image was over exposed by the sun and two images got pretty cool light leaks.
My Professor Scott Dietrich told us to over expose our color film and made us well aware that color film is much more light tolerant than black and white film. The more information means richer color in the negatives. So to keep me from bracketing I chose to lower my ISO by half of the film's speed. So for this whole roll of Alexis I shot it with an ISO of 50.
Here are some film images. They are small because I scanned them in as a contact sheet so low resolution. But great images!!
Everything seen was unedited!! FYI :)

Now here are some of the digital images that I took at the same time. I don't have a light meter and the one inside the camera refused to give me a green light. So I metered with my digital camera and than applied those settings to the film camera. Anyways, here are the digital ones.
Everything seen was unedited!! FYI :)
